How Flavorful Diversity Fuels My Favorite New Restaurant of 2025

I had already discussed what my favorite meal of 2025 was, so let me now discuss what might be my new favorite restaurant in Central Florida.

In a world where it feels like everything is going up in price and also beyond our budgets, it’s always good to find a friendly establishment that not only offers spectacular food, but for reasonable prices and with great portions. As we’ve seen the restaurant chains big and small raise their prices, cut their labor, and step away from what made them popular in the first place, it requires the local places to step up to deliver the quality for when Americans go out to eat and try to have a good time with friends and family.

Moa Kai is a quality slice of Hawaiian and Polynesian cuisine that can be hard to come by in most parts of the American South. In Orlando, we are truly blessed to have so many options for eastern hemisphere and Pacific Ocean-centric cuisine, as we have gone far beyond just the typical Chinese and Japanese fare. There have been successful Thai, Filipino, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, and modern fusion variations throughout the Chinatown, Downtown, and Mills Market areas, and the variety of cuisine options has made Orlando a growing presence in the overall culinary scene. Moa Kai belongs on that list of unique yet special dining options that is slightly off the norm.

Here you can find the classic poke bowls, garlic noodle bowls with hearty proteins, the classic macaroni salad, spam musubi, and other Hawaiian/Polynesian classics that you can find in their cuisine. But here in Moa Kai, the flavors are elevated and the presentations of the classic flavors are varied to cover other countries and regions. They have po’ boys, they have acai bowls, and even Korean chicken as an ode to all the awesome Korean chicken you can already find in Orlando. Diversity is the name of the game here, even if the flavors are full of the warm, inviting familiarity that is associated with Polynesian culture.

Moa Kai is spectacular food at great prices while also serving as a microcosm of the great American thesis: diversity is strength, diversity is what makes this country great, diversity is the key to bringing about the joy and peace that almost everybody desires. I might be making a mountain out of a molehill, but I truly believe Moa Kai as an experience goes from good to great because they were willing to diversify its menu beyond just offering quality traditional cuisine. Despite being mostly Hawaiian, their Korean chicken is easily one of the best I’ve ever had. I have been here at least six times, and every single time I left fully satisfied.

Central Florida has been blessed with many new great restaurants, dining concepts, chefs, and types of cuisine. We even recently got a place that specializes only in Japanese curry that requires literal days to make. But in 2025, this is definitely my favorite of the new restaurants. Price, portion, quality, freshness, and service are all absolutely on-point, you aren’t sacrificing any aspect of the dining experience when visiting here. I wish this place the absolute best, and it is by no means an exaggeration when I state that places like this should represent the path forward for Central Florida dining, from proper pricing to the diversity of the offerings. Moa Kai is a shining light in the foodie world of the Sunshine State.
