My Blue Dotted Letter to the Florida GOP
This will very likely not reach any of you in time, but I’m going to try regardless.
First things first, what you are currently reading has been shared with all of the internet and has been sent to e-mail addresses of just about any Florida GOP that has the power to put a stop to this absolute nonsense.
Be serious, look at that proposed map. That sea of red? Seriously? Republicans representing all of Tampa Bay, nearly all of Miami, and almost all of Orange County? Seriously? You cannot look at this map with a straight face and tell me that this is the definitive map to represent Floridians.
Approving this shitty, awful, illegal, ridiculous, immoral, stupid, childish, and backwards-thinking congressional map without letting the Floridian voters decide will be the downfall of each and every single one of you. You approve this map without the voters deciding or even being allowed to publicly show up to comment on it, then start preparing for a life after politics because each of your careers will be in extreme danger and may end sooner than you expected.
Let’s be blunt here, this map, as well as the entire MAGA redistricting agenda, is unpopular among independents, democrats, centrists, AND even republicans that live in the Sunshine State. It is baffling how fast you are all willing to move to approve these maps and yet continue to kick the can down the road when it comes to issues actually affecting Floridians. It is baffling that in a state with skyrocketing prices in housing, renting, health care, groceries, gasoline, child care, energy, and overall standards of living, the maps are what you are all focused on. This is embarrassing behavior, and everyone that votes in favor of this illegal map deserves to lose their job and pensions on the spot.
Florida is falling apart, slowly but surely. Nobody outside the 1%ers that the Florida GOP has decided to exclusively appeal to can afford to live in this state. The Republican Party has controlled Florida this entire century, and yet we have gone backwards in just about every aspect you can think of, except for number of millionaires and billionaires moving in and buying up all the properties and land that could otherwise be used to help longtime Floridians.
We Floridians are still struggling with public transportation, unemployment, underemployment, land conservation, environmental protection, clean water and air, renewable energy sources that would allow us to not rely so damn much on Middle East conflicts, a flailing education system that has seen taxpayer money fund private schools at an alarming rate, childhood illnesses, homelessness, poverty, agriculture, infrastructure; yet those stupid congressional maps have gotten more support and movement from the Republicans in Tallahassee than ANYTHING that would help us combat our ongoing issues. It is embarrassing that with their focus on strong public transit and renewable energy sources, Walt Disney World is more progressive and self-sustaining than a state with one of the richest economies in the entire world.
But instead of trying to establish emergency meetings to figure how to fix and improve Florida and the conditions of Floridians, you’ve diverted all your energy towards a map that will not actually represent the voting population. Your focus on trying to remain in power and focus on appealing to the orange wannabe king who only cares about enriching himself and his billionaire buddies has completely clouded your vision of what Florida is and what it can be.
In case you didn’t know, Miami-Dade County and the successful Asian city-nation known as Singapore are about the same size, have about the same climate, and around the same number of billionaires. The Miami metro population and Singapore’s population are about even, and both are also very diverse. Just Miami-Dade County alone has up to 35% of the GDP that the entire country of Singapore enjoys. Now look at Singapore’s parks, hospitals, seaports, main airport, and overall layout. Then, just look at Miami’s airport. Singapore is considered one of the greatest overall countries on earth. Singapore is a very feasible successful endgame for regions like Miami-Dade, Tampa Bay, and even Northeastern Florida, but Florida GOP constantly creates obstacles and dismantles any sort of progress towards achieving thriving livable communities for everyone to enjoy.
Here’s the other kicker, this map might completely backfire against you.
But even if I know that it will ultimately backfire come 2026-2028, I’m still against the practice of overriding the Florida Constitution and the will of the voters. You cowards won’t even put it to a vote. Argue against a mirror all you want about what the Democrats are doing in California and Virginia, but at the very least they let the voters decide the fate of the redistricting maps. Here in Florida however, we aren’t given such an opportunity, even though we voted against political gerrymandering in the first place. Enough is enough, please stop (once again) rejecting what the Florida voters prefer and reject useless measures to try to keep a historically unpopular president in power.
Your party already had such a strong advantage in this state to begin with, how much more do you want? When is it enough? And why not put this to a vote to truly test how popular DeSantis and Trump’s policies are in this state? Its very likely because each of you know that this decision is unpopular, even among your own voter base.
I can go on for another 10,000 words as to how incompetent, how ridiculous, how embarrassing, and how useless the Florida Republican Party has become in the 21st century, but I have to focus on my health for I cannot actually afford to visit a hospital, see a therapist, or even have a regular routine check-up. So I’m on my own, therefore, I will stop wasting my energy on what might feel like a pointless exercise. But I wouldn’t be doing my duty as a concerned Floridian if I didn’t at least write this to each of you.
Reject the map. Reject constantly bowing to the bullies in the White House that has dragged the reputation of your entire political ecosystem through the mud as our economy struggles to support Americans and we continue fighting pointless conflicts overseas. Stop being worms, and pick yourselves up by the bootstraps and actually take a stand. Stand your ground, resist the demands from Washington D.C. and actually become the “State’s Rights Party.”
Otherwise, when the November midterms finally come around, do not be surprised when the results threaten the future of your political party as a whole.
